Who believe that alcoholism is a family disease and that changed attitudes can aid recovery. The primary purpose of Al-Anon is to help families of alcoholics. Al-Anon follows many of the same traditions of AA and also does follow the 12 steps.

A brief history of Al-Anon
In the early days of AA, the spouses of alcoholics would often find themselves waiting together while their recovering alcoholic spouses/partners were in a meeting. As they began to talk with each other – they discovered that many of them had the same problems and experiences – and that they too had been greatly affected by alcoholism. From this, family groups began to develop and in 1951, formally adopted the name Al-Anon Family Groups.
