Important Information for Volunteers

Would you like to be a Volunteer at Sobriety Under the Sun? It's an opportunity for AA's and AlAnon's just like you to come together under the Puerto Vallarta sun and meet people from all over the world who are enjoying their AA & AlAnon experience.

We need your help
A large number of committed people are required to perform the many tasks that make this weekend a great experience for all of us. Volunteers are needed in several areas. Committee Chair People will rely on you to fulfill your commitment to service. Remember, it's an honor to be a volunteer at this wonderful Convention and it's service work that keeps us sober.

How you can help
Please note – Each Chairperson has a group of key volunteers that they will train in specific tasks. But we also need other part-time volunteers to fill in throughout this busy weekend. As a volunteer you can serve for specific time periods. Your Chairperson will be able to schedule time slots that fit your schedule.

Five Ways You Can Help

Be a Greeter
If you have an outgoing personality and like people this is the service position for you. It's extremely important as the Hospitality Chairperson will depend on you to be one of the happy folks welcoming our guests when they arrive to register and check-in. Throughout the weekend you will help attendees get where they need to go, answer questions and get them to the right people if they need further assistance. Additionally, you will also take tickets at the Saturday night banquet, at the dock for the No-Booze Cruise and any other places needed throughout the weekend.

Be a Red Shirt
Led by the Venue Chairperson, Red Shirts are the folks who make convention activities look easy in the eyes of our guests. Red Shirts should ideally be able to lift 50lbs., be energetic and willing to be flexible. Their primary task is to help the Venue Chairperson provide assistance to who ever needs some “things” moved, to set up chairs, deliver items from one place to another, etc., i.e. be “runners” or “Go-Fers”. This is a physically active service position. So if you have muscles and a can-do attitude we have spiffy Red T-Shirt for you.

Join the Check In / Registration Team
The Check-In Chairperson will have a core group of trained volunteers. Additional volunteers are needed to staff the registration tables to provide breaks for the principal volunteers. To volunteer for this position you need to be able to deal tactfully with all sorts of people in a cheerful, helpful and efficient manner.

Literature and Merchandise Sales Force
Chair People will have a core group but will need “temps” to help during breaks, etc. as we have lots of customers who are eager to buy literature and merchandise. Thus it is important when the tables are open we have them fully-staffed. We need both AA's and Alanon's to help us at the tables. It will be especially useful if you have a good knowledge of our program literature. The literature and merchandise tables will be open at specific times only. The hours will be posted. Tables will be closed during the speaker presentations and during meetings on Saturday.

Hospitality Room Hosts/Hostesses
The Hospitality Room Chairperson will train a group to make sure this room is open at all designated times and is set up with coffee & snacks. It is important that Hospitality Room volunteers are knowledgeable about the convention program and grounds, meetings at the Alano Club, information in general about PV, etc. so they are able to answer questions. And most importantly, to make sure that anyone coming into the room feels welcome and receives thoughtful attention.
